Hi you all.
It has been only less than a month since I started on my new site. It is going to be close to a month, come 24th November 2011. I have got quite a decent number of visitors on my new website (more than 50), it is just that they appeared to be quite shy when it comes to commenting. I am not sure if this can be attributed to the majority of the visitors are from Singapore, and that Singaporeans are rather reserved when expressing their opinions and they tend to keep to themselves.
I will be concentrating all my time and energy on my new website. I am aiming to be able to make a living off blogging and to eventually use my blog income to support myself. Well enough about myself, allow me to broach on the topic of Commenting Etiquette. This is simply the etiquette to observe when you are a new blogger and wish to promote your website by leaving a comment on another blogger's higher page-rank website.
1. No Spamming, No spamming, No spamming
This means simply, not to spam. When you are commenting on a blog, it is simply rude to leave behind duplicates of remarks like the "Copy and Paste" kind. It is also bad that you are also not commenting "on-topic", and just blabbering nonsense.
2. Comment to bring forth discussion
The blog owner will love you for it. This means to leave a comment to encourage further discussion from other readers on the same blog. It is even better to also point out a different perspective that the blog author did not mention, and make it personal by stating Your own point of view. It is kinda pointless to just simply agree on what the author has to say.
3. Be polite and courteous
Agree to disagree. Nobody likes to see a heated argument over the internet which results in slurs of vulgarities and profanities painting all over the blog. Be responsible and also accept that other people are entitled to their own point of views. If you disagree strongly, be gentle with your words and don't use a harsh tone in your comments that is provocative. No "Fu** Y**" and No "Screw Y*** Mot***". You can say it in your mind but not in the comments. Nobody likes rude people.
Keep in mind on all these and you can go about commenting in peace and love. Who knows, you will be rewarded for your comments when the blog author decides to thank you by linking back to your own blog. Be polite and observe the "Commenting Etiquette".
